The early days in this suburban south Seattle city started with primarily agriculture and farming, in fact, up until the 1990’s, farming was still a big part of the town. Once the industrial park in Tukwila expanded into the area, it quickly became more of an industrial city than farming. Companies like Ikea, REI and Boeing all have offices in and around town. The farming aspect is still prevalent as there are still multiple farms on the outskirts of town and Emerald Downs racetrack located just a few miles south in Auburn, WA.
Parks and Recreation
Kent is ranked as one of the most sports loving cities in Washington State and with that, comes the foundation of the Parks and Recreation Commission. If you look at their website at http://www.kentwa.gov/ParksandRecreation/, you will find all of the information you need to know about the different programs and how to sign up for them. The parks and recreation commission is focused on ensuring that everyone in the city who wants to participate in the activities offered can, which is why they offer sliding scale scholarships for all of their programs as well as adaptive programs so those who would often not be able to afford or those who cannot physically participate have the ability to enjoy the events that they were once deprived of doing.
The main event here is that of ShoWare Center. Here, you will find the only semi-pro sports team which is that of the Seattle Thunderbirds Hockey. The ShoWare Center also offers all types of events from concerts to kid’s ice skating events, classes and clinics. There is always something going on in this large, suburban city but if for some reason, you want something more, it is nestled right in the middle of Seattle to the north and Tacoma to the south, giving you even more options for arts, entertainment and sporting events.
Kent is a city where you will find a healthy combination of nature, trails, parks and entertainment and shopping. The homes here are far enough that the noise of the city is gone but the fun of the city is always there. Those who are looking for the various homes for sale
